Beer Spotlight: Southern Tier Warlock

BEER: Warlock
BREWER: Southern Tier Brewing Co., Lakewood, NY
STYLE: Imperial Pumpkin Stout
ABV: 8.6%
BACKGROUND: As the first move in Southern Tier’s plan to revise its Blackwater Series, Warlock was brewed as a counterpoint to Pumking, the brewery’s popular imperial pumpkin ale. This velvety smooth stout was brewed with four malts (2-row, caramel, black & Munich), two hops (magnum & sterling), puréed pumpkin and the same proprietary mix of spices used in Pumking.
APPEARANCE / NOSE / FLAVOR: Pouring black with a thick tan head, the spicy pumpkin pie aroma and roasted malt notes will be familiar to anyone who has tried Pumking. The flavor is also reminiscent of pumpkin pie, but laced with coffee and dark chocolate. The finish, however, is slightly sweeter than that of Pumking.
SERVING TEMPERATURE: 48°F

AVAILABILITY: This stout hit the shelves last week and can be found in a limited number of 22oz. bottles in select liquor stores. It is also on tap at select bars and taverns in the area. Check BeerMenus.com for the closest location to you.
